It is in the westren most part of nepal and lies in far westren development region.It extends from the chinese border in the north to the indian border in the south.This zone borders with indin in the west and seti zone in the east.Mt.Api is the highest mountain peak of this zone.
This zone can be divided into three parts the mountain,hill and terai.The hill consists of the mahabharat and churia ranges of hills and the terai region is made of fertile soil.Paddy,wheat,sugarcane etc are grown here.Brahmin,Chhetry,Thakuri,Rana,Tharu etc are the main in habitants.They have different culture and traditions.Most of the people are farmers.Bhimnagar,Dadeldhura and patan are trade centres of Mahakali zone.Shuklaphanta wildlife reserve is famous tourist centre of this zone.The headquarters of this zone is Bhimnagar.Mahakali zone is the smallest zone then Karnali zone.
